The Egyptian government has debunked viral rumors about the country facing a shortage of strategic goods and an imminent food crisis due to the conflict in Gaza. A fake post attributed to the Cabinet circulating on social media suggested that the country was on the brink of a food crisis because of the war in Gaza. This post urged the Egyptian citizens to stockpile food products in anticipation of worsening conditions. However, the government has confirmed that the post was counterfeit and not issued by the Cabinet. The Egyptian Cabinet’s Media Center clarified on Monday that all types of food products continue to be available in adequate quantities and are regularly supplied to markets across all governorates to meet the needs of citizens. In addition, it was pointed out that Egypt's strategic reserves of primary commodities are safe and sufficient for several months. The Media Center reinstated the state's capability to tackle such crises and sustain the country's food security status. It also ensured the provision of safe and healthy food products to its citizens without any scarcity of goods in the markets. Such fake news circulating on social media platforms creates unnecessary panic among the public and undermines the efforts of the government in maintaining stability and order.
