As the country’s population continues to increase, so does its need for reliable and sustainable energy sources. This burgeoning demand presents both challenges and opportunities for Egypt, as it strives to balance economic growth with environmental sustainability.



The energy demand in Egypt has been on a steady rise over the past few years, largely driven by population growth, urbanization, and industrial expansion. According to the International Energy Agency, Egypt’s energy consumption is expected to double by 2030. This surge in energy demand poses significant challenges for the country’s infrastructure and resources, necessitating innovative strategies to meet this growing need.


Egypt’s government has recognized the urgency of this issue and has taken proactive steps to address it. The country has launched several initiatives aimed at diversifying its energy sources, improving energy efficiency, and promoting renewable energy. One of the key strategies has been the development of renewable energy projects, particularly in solar and wind power. Egypt’s abundant sunshine and high wind speeds make it an ideal location for these types of projects.


In 2015, the government launched the Feed-in Tariff program, which incentivizes private sector investment in renewable energy. This program has been successful in attracting both local and international investors, leading to the development of several large-scale solar and wind projects. For instance, the Benban Solar Park, one of the world’s largest solar parks, was developed under this program and is expected to produce enough electricity to power over one million homes.
