The rate of tourism influx to Egypt’s Mediterranean city of Alexandria has not exceeded 10 percent during the last three months, according to Ibrahim Ramadan, president of the Chamber of Tourist Facilities in Alexandria.

Ramadan referred to political circumstances in Cairo, which have negatively affected tourism in Alexandria. He also said Arab tourism in general has been very weak this season.

Internal tourism rates, however, have been much higher: Ramadan said internal tourism has reached 85 percent and helped improve the income of restaurants and tourist facilities in Alexandria.

“Egyptians help to improve the economy and activate internal tourism as well,” said Ramadan.

In the wake of Egypt’s January 25 Revolution, a state of confusion and weak security effected the tourism sector badly and helped competition in other countries, said Ramadan.
