SCAF: Egypt keen on cooperation with African brothers
Head of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) Field Marshal Hussein Tantawi said on Friday 14/10/2011 that the multi-faceted cooperation with the African countries has become a top priority in Egypt's foreign policy after the Egyptian revolution.
This came in Tantawi's speech to the summit of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) in Malawi read out Friday 14/10/2011 on his behalf by Communications and IT Minister Mohamed Salem.
The post-revolution Egypt is keen on boosting cooperation with the African countries, Tantawi said.
The event, held under the rubric "Harnessing of Science and Technology for Development", is taking up aspects of cooperation among the COMESA member states.
Tantawi said that the theme of the summit reflects the growing need to exploit opportunities offered by science and technology which could help the African continent overcome its enormous challenges.
COMESA is a regional trade bloc made up of 19 countries from eastern and southern Africa. The president of Malawi, Bingu Wa Mutharika, who currently heads the organization, is chairing the summit.
Tantawi said that joint cooperation is the key tool for African countries that could pave the way towards achieving regional integration, development and prosperity for all African nations.
