Microsoft COO launches new initiatives with Egypt officials

Among them are several projects improving youth’s skills, empowering small and medium-sized businesses and employability, development and improvement of education.

With the strong belief of the importance of the Egyptian market, and Egypt’s prominent role in the region, Kevin Turner, Chief Operating Officer at Microsoft, visited Egypt for the second time on the 4th of November 2014.

During his visit, Turner had meetings with a wide number of senior officials to emphasize the strong and distinct relations between Microsoft and the Egyptian government resulting in several national initiatives and big projects. Among them are several projects supporting the Egyptian citizen through a number of partnership and initiatives with the Egyptian government in various fields including improving youth’s skills, empowering small and medium business and employability, development and improvement of education, as well as the support of entrepreneurship.

These initiatives aim at supporting development in Egypt. The ‘Government's Use of Cloud Technologies’ initiative comes on top of these initiatives. This will facilitate operations between different entities, in addition to the use of cloud computing technologies and mobile devices the educational improvement and development.

Turner also discussed the support that Microsoft offers within the overall development plan for Egypt, including various initiatives for the development of youth skills, helping in creating job opportunities, reducing unemployment rates, supporting small and emerging enterprises, in addition to exploring aspects of future cooperation in a number of national projects such as the new ‘Suez Canal Development’ project.

Khaled Abdel Kader, General Manager, Microsoft Egypt, stated that Turner’s visit – at this time when new complete development plans are being launched – comes as a confirmation of the dedicated support and full commitment to the presence of Microsoft in Egypt as well as increasing investments to serve the local community. “This visit will be an opportunity to increase cooperation between the company and the Egyptian government in a number of new initiatives, all designed to serve the social and economic development of the Egyptian society,” he said.

During his visit, Turner held meetings with Microsoft partners to highlight new strategies and initiatives. One of the most prominent strategies discussed was how Microsoft is working to redefine productivity for the “mobile first, cloud first" world. Introducing Microsoft’s vision, as well as clarifying the opportunities and possibilities available through new technologies and solutions, such as customer relationship management Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online, cloud computing and many others.

Turner leads the Sales, Marketing and Services group at Microsoft which employs more than 50,000 employees in more than 190 countries. Under his leadership, the marketing sales group achieved more than USD 78.6 billion in the last fiscal year.

The sales and marketing organization focuses on supplying various groups of Microsoft’s family of devices and services to customers and partners around the world.
