India may be the new wheat exporter to Egypt
Egypt an India are in final talks over wheat exports from India. Egypt is also in talks with China, Turkey and Iran.
Egypt is in need of new wheat suppliers as the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, Egypt's biggest suppliers, halted their supply to the global market.
Egypt is the biggest wheat importer in the world and has received offers from about 15 countries regarding its wheat needs.
India is a big wheat exporting country, and in 2021-2022 its exports exceeded $1.7 billion from almost $340 million the year before. India exxports wheat mainly to Bangladesh (about 54% of the market share) as well as to Qatar, Yemen, Afghanistan and Indonesia.
