Egypt exports 3.5 million tons of agricultural products
Since January 2022, till June of the same year, the agricultural exports of Egypt hit 3.5 million tons. These products include potatoes, tomatoes, sweet potatoes, citrus fruits, garlic, watermelon and beans. The biggest export is citrus, followed by potatoes.
Egypt’s food exports have been on an increasing trend since 2020; reaching $4.1 billion in 2021. Egypt aims to export food and agricultural surplus to ensure flow of foreign currency to 150 different countries.
The agricultural sector is a vital part of the Egyptian economy, constituting 15% of Egypt’s GDP and 25% of the labor force.
