Egypt is recognized as a major player in fish farming, ranking first in Africa and sixth in the world in this field, highlighting its significance in the global fishing industry.

Here are 10 key points you need to know about fish production in Egypt:

  1. Egypt's fish production has reached an impressive milestone of 2 million tons, indicating a self-sufficiency rate of 85%.

  2. Egypt ranks first in Africa, sixth globally, and third in tilapia production, showcasing its prominent position in the fish production industry.

  3. National projects are expected to contribute to the rise in fish export rates, as they operate at full capacity.

  4. The government established the Lake Protection and Fish Wealth Development Authority to regulate and facilitate the fishing industry.

  5. Fishing boats are being equipped with tracking devices, costing LE 30,000 per boat, to enhance monitoring and management.

  6. The "Bar Aman" governmental initiative supports fishermen by providing supplies and easing their work process, benefiting 42,000 fishermen so far.

  7. Egypt is investing in the establishment of shrimp and marine fish hatcheries, with strict measures to prevent fishing in these hatcheries.

  8. Various enhancement plans are underway to develop lakes such as Manzala, Burullus, Idku, and Bardawil, aimed at boosting fish production.

  9. The government has approved the launch of 21 marine areas, 9 in the Red Sea and 12 in the Mediterranean, to further support fish production.

  10. Egypt is collaborating with the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development (AOAD) to strengthen fish farming in Lebanon and provide technical support to Lebanese fish farmers, as part of its commitment to promoting food security in the Arab countries.
