Meta has launched three

Meta has introduced three new AI models, including the flagship Llama 3.1 405B. This frontier-level open-source model is designed to keep pace with the best closed-source models and enables new workflows such as the creation of artificially generated data and model distillation. Developers can customise Llama 3.1 to suit their needs.

Mistral calculates better

Mistral has unveiled its new AI flagship, Large 2, which claims to be a serious competitor to the latest models from OpenAI and Meta, reports TechCrunch. Large 2 excels in code generation and maths and even outperforms Meta's Llama 3.1 405b, despite having less than a third of Llama 3.1's parameters at 123 billion.

Kling's video AI for all

A powerful new AI model from China for video generation, called "Kling", has been available since this week. The model was developed by the company Kuaishou. It is initially available for users with Chinese telephone numbers. Kling can create five-second videos according to specifications, simulating what things like water or leaves look like in motion. However, the model has a significant problem: it censors content that is considered politically sensitive. Queries on topics such as "democracy in China" or "Tiananmen Square protests" only produce generalised error messages. The model filters specifically so that it does not create videos on certain political topics, even if the topics are only mentioned indirectly.

Fake videos are booming

A fake video is currently circulating on the internet that purports to show a contribution from the news channel "Welt". In this clip, influencer Julian Claßen, known as Julienco, is portrayed as an advertiser for the "PlinkMe" app. The video post suggests that Claßen is donating millions of euros to German citizens and encourages viewers to download the app and register to play and win. However, several details reveal the deception.

AI observes employees

The Japanese supermarket chain AEON is the first company in the world to use artificial intelligence (AI) to assess the smile and service attitude of its employees. The innovation, called "Mr Smile", was developed by the Japanese technology company InstaVR and analyses over 450 elements, such as facial expressions, voice volume and greeting tone. The aim is to be able to assess the service attitude of a shop assistant. Another aim is to standardise the smiles of employees in order to achieve maximum customer satisfaction.
