“Bustling, Hustling” Entrepreneurship in Egypt Study-Tour

“Good business is about responsible business,” as it represents a great way to recruit talent and to gain and retain customers" Amir Abdallah said.
Dr. Ayman El Tarabishy, Research Professor and Executive Director of the International Council of Small Business (ICSB), together with Amir Abdallah, Global MBA Candidate ’12 and Global Leaders Fellow, hosted a webinar about the new Corporate Responsibility (CR) and Social Entrepreneurship (SE) Study-Tour.

The study-tour will take place in Cairo, Egypt from March 10-17, 2012. After selecting a company actively involved in corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, teams of 4-5 students will study and conduct interviews with the chosen company, ultimately producing a case study that could be selected by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Egyptian Corporate Responsibility Center (ECRC) for publication.

Students will be engaging with faculty and other students from Cairo University (CU) and the American University in Cairo (AUC) during the week. Along with presentations, research, and a “debate day,” highlights include dinner on the Nile River, touring the Giza Pyramids, and visiting the Egyptian Museum of Antiquities.

Entrepreneurship is a “creating, bustling, hustling” type of business, said Tarabishy, and, if profits and social benefits can both be realized, it is a “win-win for everyone.” Abdallah added that “good business is about responsible business,” as it represents a great way to recruit talent and to gain and retain customers. The focus is on attaining “that optimal expression,” where “incentives and interests align to maximize returns”–both financial and social.
