Egypt Ranks 11th Fastest Growing Country on Facebook
Egypt is among the top 15 fastest growing countries on Facebook, recent statistics from SocialBakers have revealed.
Take look at the attached file to know which country is number 1 on the list.
With over 9.3 million Facebook users as at November 2011, Egypt added over 400,000 users within the past month with a growth rate of 5.20%.
The country’s Facebook explosion has been linked to the online revolution started by ex-Google executive, Wael Ghonim, a computer engineer and Internet activist who later became the unofficial spokesman for Egypt’s revolutionaries.
In an interview with CNN earlier this year, Ghonim was quoted saying:
“I’m talking on behalf of Egypt. This revolution started online. This revolution started on Facebook…I want to meet Mark Zuckerberg one day and thank him.”
According to the statistics, Brazil and India, the two fastest growing countries on Facebook, also accelerated their growth even more rapidly, adding over 4 million and 3 million users within the past month respectively.
Nigeria, the 2nd fastest growing African country on Facebook, added close to 500,000 users within the past month with a growth rate of 8.70%.
Last July, Nigeria was among the 15th fastest growing countries on Facebook.
