In Depth Market Research On Contact Lens Industry
The contact lenses manufactured by CooperVision, will be available for digital device users by the end of July, 2016. The company announced the launch of Biofinity Energys with Digital Zone Optics that can help digital users to minimize strain on their eyes. According to the press release of the company, Digital Zone Optics and Aquaform Technology has been implemented to manufacture these contact lenses. These lenses are made up of 52% of comfilcon A and optimized for electronics users.
The integration of multiple front-surface aspheric curves is possible across the entire optical zone with the help of Digital Zone Optics. This zone distributes power evenly on lenses and more positive power is simulated in the center of the lens. This technology helps in minimizing the accommodative burden on eyes as users move their gaze from on-screen to off-screen and back. The Aquaform Technology helps in binding water on the lens material thoroughly. It retains moisture and assists in reducing dryness when blinking is reduced. According to press release of the company, oxygen transmissibility is optimized by long silicone chains and a low modulus for softness & flexibility is resulted due to reduced silicone content.

Michele Andrews, OD, Director of Professional Affairs, North America, at CooperVision, told Primary Care Optometry News (PCON), “The company tested the lens in a few locations across the country, and patients said they had good vision at distance and near and good comfort at the end of the day. The learning curve is in patient education and expectations.” Doug Brayer, Director of Marketing, Brand Management at CooperVision, told PCON, “The lens was quickly accepted by doctors and patients. Test market feedback has been phenomenal. Distribution will begin in the latter part of July.”
The material used in these contact lenses is same as that of Biofinity sphere lenses. The lenses are available in parameter range with a base curve of 8.6 mm and center thickness of 0.08 mm at -3.00 D and 14.0-mm diameter in sphere powers from +8.00 D to -12.00 D. According to the press release, the material consists of 48% water having a Dk/t of 160 at -3.00 D. Technological advancements play a significant role to provide comfort and minimizing strain on eyes of users.
