Egypt has asked for U.S. help consolidating earlier U.S. Foreign Military Sales deals, saving money and providing for life support services to relevant U.S. government and contractor representatives now in the country.

The U.S. State Department has approved a U.S. Foreign Military Sales deal for Egypt for support of U.S. government and contractor personnel in the country.
The personnel -- 140 in all -- are at nine locations in Egypt in support of earlier Egyptian procurement of U.S. military equipment and systems.

The new sales agreement for support of the personnel and State Department approval was reported to Congress by the U.S. Defense Security Cooperation Agency and would be worth an estimated $69 million.

"Egypt has several Foreign Military Sales cases that require in-country support from U.S. contractor, military and civilian personnel," the agency said. "Egypt has requested that the U.S. Air Force consolidate the relevant personnel support cases to maximize cost savings.

"This notification reports the cost for the past three years of this program and the proposed one-year extension."

The deal, if it passes Congressional muster, would cover lodging, transportation, security, medical, and other related elements of program support.
