Vodafone Egypt adds half million customers in March quarter
Vodafone Egypt added 508,000 new customers in its fiscal fourth quarter, reaching a total of 39.717 million at the end of March. The mobile operator's ARPU jumped to EGP 31.3 from EGP 22.5 in the year-earlier quarter and EGP 25.2 in the December quarter. This was helped by a more than doubling in data traffic, to 16,276 TB from 7,461 TB a year ago, as well as the more stable economic climate in Egypt. Voice and SMS traffic also increased on an annual basis. Vodafone reported service revenues of GBP 342 million for Egypt in the quarter, equal to a 3.4 percent annual increase on an organic basis. The operator also grew its fixed broadband base in Egypt to 224,000 customers at the end of March, up by 14,000 from December.
