4,000 people run Pyramids Half Marathon
Some 4,000 runners from about 80 countries participated on Saturday in the Pyramids Half Marathon that was held at the Giza Plateau.
Held under the supervision of Egypt’s ministries of Youth, Sports and Tourism and Antiquities, the Pyramids Half Marathon 2021 marks TriFactory’s third year of hosting the flagship sports event.
The half marathon was divided into a 5k race, a 10k race, and a 21k race.
Before the race kicked off, Egyptian Minister of Youth and Sports Ashraf Sobhy welcomed all participants, wishing them success in the marathon’s races that was held in one of the most renowned archaeological and tourist sites in the world.
The minister drew attention to the events and sports tourism events that are organized throughout the year in various regions and tourist attractions, noting that the role of such events helps revive Egyptian tourism sector.
Sobhy also praised the size of participation in the half marathon and the diversity of participants of different ages as well as the excellent organization.
He pointed out that the ministry is continuing to implement many sports tourism events in the coming period in cooperation with the Ministry of Tourism and other organizing bodies.
For runners, the marathon is not only an important sports experience but also a platform where they can meet other enthusiasts.
“I participated in the 10k race and it took me almost one hour to get to the finish line,” Mostafa Sasa, a 32-year-runner from Alexandria governorate, told Xinhua.
