Japan supports Egypt to turn into regional energy hub
Japan's Ambassador in Cairo Oka Hiroshi said on Monday Egypt has plenty of natural gas and sources of solar and wind power, noting Japan supports Egypt's role in turning it into a regional energy hub.
Delivering a speech at the sixth edition of Al-Ahram energy conference, Hiroshi pointed out that Japan cooperated with the Egyptian government in setting up an excellence center and provided 20 experts from JICA for training administrative cadres.
The Japanese companies are conducting a survey and study in the Suez Canal, the ambassador noted, adding his country provided Egypt with $240 million to support the Egyptian government's reform plan of the energy sector in addition to setting up power transmission lines from Egypt to Saudi Arabia.
