Egypt produces 2 million tons of fish annually with 85% self-sufficiency rate
The Minister of Agriculture El-Sayed al-Quseir said that the total annual fish production in Egypt amounts to 2 million tons, with a self-sufficiency rate of about 85%.
The Egyptian state occupies the first place in Africa, and the sixth globally in fish farming, and it also occupies the third place in tilapia production. It will increase the percentage of self-sufficiency and surpluses for export with the entry of all national projects into production at full capacity.
This came during the speech of the Minister's at the plenary session of the House of Representatives.
Al-Quseir said: "I refer to the approval of your to issue the law for the establishment of the Authority for the Protection and Development of Lakes and Fisheries, which included a number of controls and facilitations to support this activity."
