Egypt, Greece mull naming int’l consultant for joint power linkage project
Electricity Minister Mohamed Shaker said on Sunday coordination is under way with the Greek side to agree on the international consultancy office that will conduct the technical and economic feasibility study of the power connection project between the two countries.
Speaking to MENA, Shaker said 2,000 megawatt can be exchanged through the electricity interconnection project between Egypt and Greece.
He added that an agreement was held with a Belgian company to discuss installing underwater power cables between Egypt and Greece.
He said there is a growing European interest in power linkage projects with Egypt given the country’s abundance of renewable energy resources at a time Europe is looking for alternatives to Russian gas.
