Egypt seeks to increase winter wheat production
Dr. Ahmed Rizk, head of the Egyptian Ministry of Agriculture’s Central Pest Control Unit, said a group of crops are grown during the winter season that adapt to low temperatures.
He explained that special attention is paid to wheat in the country, since the state and the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation pay great attention to it, especially since it is a winter crop.
And he continued: Last year we planted 3.6 million feddans, and this year we aim to grow 4 million wheat with the efforts of an Egyptian farmer.
He emphasized that agriculture alone is not enough, because it is necessary to protect our production from insects and diseases, pests and weeds, which, if neglected to fight them, can lead to crop damage and losses exceeding 30%, so the Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation directed the need for constant presence with farmers; Determine the extent of damage from agricultural pests.
