Metro ticket prices to increase by LE 2 for tickets covering 25+ stations
Transport Minister, Kamel El Wazir, revealed on Tuesday a LE 2 increase for metro tickets covering more than 25 stations, spiraling to LE 12 instead of LE 10 while other ticket prices will remain the same.
El-Wazir described the decision as a delayed one that should’ve been taken ever since the inauguration of the third metro line, Adly Mansour.
Currently, the metro ticket prices are LE 5 for 9 stations, LE 7 for 16 stations and LE 10 for 17+ stations
Moreover, the Minister stated that light rail transit (LRT) / electric train ticket prices are likely to increase in conjunction with the increase of its running capacity.
According to the minister, LRT/ electric trains ticket prices are subsidized, by using financial resources from establishing investment and commercial areas surrounding the train stations, as the current ticket prices don’t cover the operational costs of the trains.
The current ticket prices of the LRT range from LE 10 for - 3 stations - to LE 20 - for 7 stations -, with an almost 50 percent reduced subscription plan.
