Energean announces delivery of 1st gas in Egypt's NEA
Energean announced on Thursday the delivery of the first gas from North El Amriya and North Idku (NEA/NI), Egypt.
The gas was delivered from the NEA#6 well located in shallow water, offshore Egypt, the London-listed company said, adding that the remaining three wells are expected to be brought online over the course of 2023, the company said.
According to Natural Gas World, the NEA/NI development contains an estimated 39mn boe of 2P reserves with net working interest production expected to peak at 15 – 20k boe/d in 2024. The development leverages existing infrastructure and involves the subsea tieback of four wells to Energean's North Abu Qir PIII platform.
Regarding this significant milestone, Energean CEO Mathios Rigas said: "We are delighted to bring on new production into our East Mediterranean gas-focused portfolio, as well as meeting the needs of Egypt and Egyptians through underwriting energy security with reliable supply that has a lower carbon footprint than alternative sources of domestic energy."
The two concessions are both 100% owned by Energean and whilst operated through separate 50/50 JV companies they both fall under the overall management of Abu Qir Petroleum.
