European Commission VP visits Egypt to discuss education, mobility, and migration issues
Vice President of the European Commission Margaritis Schinas will visit Egypt from 26 to 28 March. This visit will be an opportunity to deepen the cooperation between the EU and Egypt in areas such as skills development, education, and mobility, and to discuss concrete steps at political and operational level to address shared challenges linked to migration management, following up to the orientations of the recent European Council meetings.
The visit will start in Cairo where Schinas will have a series of high-level meetings with Egyptian leaders and government representatives, including with Sameh Skoukry, Minister of Foreign Affairs; Mohamed Hassen Shehata, Minister for Manpower; Reda Hegazy, Minister for Education and Vocational Training; and Alaa Abdel Maati, Assistant Minister of Interior. In the context of promoting interfaith dialogue, Schinas will meet Pope Tawadros II, Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of St Mark Church.
On Monday, Schinas will visit the Egyptian-German Centre for Jobs, Migration and Reintegration in Cairo, together with Soha El-Gendy, Minister of State for Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Abroad. He will then travel to Alexandria for on-site visits to an EU-funded project supporting refugees and migrants in cooperation with Caritas and to the Egyptian Coast Guard.
