IHG to expand Egypt portfolio with three new hotels
Growing demand
In response to the growing demand for luxury resorts and premium hospitality options across Egypt, IHG is set to open InterContinental North Coast Direction White, voco Cairo Arabella Plaza Cairo and Crowne Plaza Cairo Arabella Clubhouse over the coming years.
Each of these new-build properties, which are all under construction, will provide a new accommodation option in a notable area of the country. Cairo’s new voco property is set to open in July 2023, the Crowne Plaza hotel in Cairo is expected to debut in January 2026 and the highly anticipated InterContinental hotel is due to open September 2026 in Ras El Hekma.
Commenting on the signings, Haitham Mattar, MD in India, the Middle East and Africa for IHG, commented: “Egypt offers a wealth of opportunity for the hospitality industry today with New Cairo and other attractive, high-end destinations attracting more visitors to the nation.
“The signing of three new hotels alongside Arabella Group will support the growth we are witnessing in the country by offering new and compelling luxury and premium hospitality experiences to satisfy the most discerning of travellers.”
Mohamed Amin El Dokhmesy, president of Arabella Group, added: “We are pleased to partner with IHG Hotels & Resorts to expand the footprint of three of its leading brands — InterContinental, voco and Crowne Plaza, in Egypt.
“IHG has delivered first class hospitality experiences to guests worldwide and in Egypt, and as a partner of Arabella Group, we can guarantee it. With Egypt’s hospitality sector seeing exceptional growth, we are confident that both parties will benefit tremendously from this latest partnership.”
A luxury accommodation project
Of these three openings, InterContinental North Coast Direction White will cater to the luxury market. The property will be located in what has become a fast-growing luxury resort destination celebrated for its scenic beachfront.
The Direction White project encompasses 290 acres of residential, retail and hospitality developments. This site is a 90-minute drive from Alexandria International Airport and less than an hour’s journey from the forthcoming Al Alamein International Airport.
On opening, the hotel will have 346 luxurious guestrooms and suites, along with five restaurants and bars including an all-day dining restaurant, two specialty restaurants, a lobby lounge and pool bar. Facilities here will range from a club lounge and spa to 397 sq m of meeting space.
