Supply Ministry Prohibits Use of Local Wheat as Fodder for Fish, Animal Farms
Ali Al-Moselhi, Minister of Supply and Internal Trade issued a decision to regulate the supply of local wheat for the 2023 season.
The decision issued by Al-Moselhi prohibited the trading of local wheat from the 2023 harvest season from one place to another without the approval of its Supply Directorate.
It also warned the owners of fish and animal farms and those responsible for their management against acquiring or using local wheat.
The decision directed the owners of private sector mills that produce free flour to manage their needs of imported wheat, and it is forbidden for them to use local wheat during the marketing season, except with a permit from the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade.
The decision, which was announced by the Ministry of Supply in a statement today, indicated that the imported local wheat with a purity of 23.5 calories costs EGP 1.500 for ardeb, a purity of 23 calories EGP 1.475 for ardeb, and a purity of 22.5 calories sells for EGP 1.450 for ardeb.
Ahmed Kamal, Assistant Minister of Supply and the ministry's official spokesperson, confirmed that the decision also stipulated the speedy payment of farmers' dues from the authorities marketing local wheat, with a maximum of 48 hours.
Kamal said that the payment of financial dues will be electronic, after dealing with silos and local wheat receiving points was digitized.
He added that the ministry has prepared 420 points to receive wheat, between field and vertical silos, hangers, bankers and developed stores, pointing to the entry of a number of field silos to receive local wheat this year.
