Egypt Could Import Livestock from Chad, Somalia to Make up for Shortage from Sudan

Egypt is looking for other alternatives in the event of a shortage in importing Sudanese meat.

Ali Al-Moselhi, Minister of Supply confirmed that a meeting will take place with the Sudanese livestock company to find out the rate of meat supply from the Sudanese side so far.


He indicated during the press conference that livestock sources from abroad will be diversified, as meat will be imported from Somalia and Chad by the private sector during the coming period, and therefore the ministry is studying the possibility of importing meat from both African countries to compensate for any shortage in the product from other financing sources.


He explained that the main source is Sudan, but Egypt is looking for other alternatives in the event of a shortage in importing Sudanese meat.


He pointed out that there are about 5,000 heads of Sudanese cattle are in the quarries, which is sufficient for 7 to 10 months.
