Egypt Receives 40,000 Tons of Russian Wheat
The media center of the Damietta Port Authority announced the reception of the PETRA-1 ship coming from Russia with 40,000 tons of wheat on board for the Egyptian Supply Commodities Authority.
This year, the port of Damietta in Egypt received the SABAEK ship, loaded with the largest shipment of its kind of Russian wheat since 1986.
The port received the ship, which is considered the largest ship docked on the docks of the port since its opening in 1986.
Russia has provided Egypt during the past months, despite the Ukrainian crisis, with a huge amount of wheat, as Russia has committed itself to supplying Egypt.
On January 11 of this year, Russia issued a statement confirming that, despite the New Year holidays, it continued to ship grain to various countries of the world, led by Egypt, as exports increased from January 1 to January 8.
Yelena Tyurina, Director of the Analytics Department of the Russian Grain Union said that the volume of wheat exports doubled to 963,000 tons, compared to 480,000 tons for the same period in 2022. Corn exports also increased by 27%, reaching 44,500 tons.
According to Tyurina, Egypt is the leading country in importing Russian wheat during the month of January, as 191,500 tons were shipped to Egypt, compared to 103,000 tons a year ago.
