Egypt Imposes “Export Fee” on Zinc Scrap
Ahmed Samir, the Egyptian Minister of Trade and Industry issued a decision to continue imposing an export fee on zinc dust, powders and flakes at EGP 5,000 per ton, for a period of one year.
On Saturday, Samir said that the decision aims to preserve raw materials and benefit from their manufacture to increase the added value of local industries, in addition to providing scrap metals in the local market, being one of the basic raw materials needed for many industries.
He pointed out that zinc ore is of great industrial importance as an important element in supporting clean energy technologies such as solar energy and wind energy due to its superior ability to protect metals from corrosion.
The Head of the Agreements, Trade and Foreign Affairs Sector, Amany Al-Wasal explained that the ministry works in accordance with international commercial rules and procedures in order to achieve a balance between providing basic materials in the local market for industry or exporting them abroad, as an export fee was previously imposed on some items of scrap metal and waste, including zinc, as of From 2002.
