Egypt to tender precious metals mining projects
Egypt will launch a group of tenders in the mining sector for resources including precious metals, phosphate, sulfur, and potash, between July and September 2023, said Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Tarek El-Molla.
El-Molla made his remarks during his speech inaugurating the second edition of the Egypt Mining Forum.
The minister also announced that Egypt has launched a regional geophysical survey programme that includes the building of remote-sensing satellites to identify areas with potential rare and radioactive metals resources.
The Egypt Mining Forum is being hosted by the petroleum ministry on 17 and 18 July at the Nile Ritz-Carlton in Cairo. It brings together regional stakeholders, international mining companies, investors, service, and suppliers who are looking to do business in Egypt and North Africa.
The forum sheds light on Egypt’s financing roadmap, showing how foreign investment and partnerships will be key drivers to unlocking value within the mining sector.
In 2022, Egypt produced 9.8 million tons of steel, making it the largest steel producer in Africa and the second largest in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, according to a report by Fitch Solutions in April 2023.
