Egypt continues to strengthen its position in the US frozen strawberry market
Egypt has been increasing its exports of frozen strawberries to the US market this year, EastFruit reports. Egypt became the fourth largest exporter of this product to the US last year, and in the first seven months of this year, the volume of exports in this direction increased by 17%.
From January to July 2023, Egypt exported a record high of 9,100 tonnes of frozen strawberries to the US. However, only in May and June, the export volumes were slightly lower than last year’s, while in other months of the specified period they significantly exceeded them.
Last year, Egypt exported almost 12,000 tonnes of frozen strawberries to the US, which ranked it fourth among the suppliers to the US market. Moreover, Egypt was the leading exporter of frozen strawberries to the US among all countries of the Old World, trailing only behind Mexico, Chile, and Peru.
As for January-July of this year, Egypt even improved its position in the US market. During this period, the main suppliers of frozen strawberries to the US market were still Mexico (65,400 tonnes) and Chile (12,500 tonnes), while Egypt with 9,100 tonnes surpassed Peru (7,500 tonnes).
The import volumes of frozen strawberries from other countries were much lower. For example, 3,100 tonnes of this product were imported from Guatemala, and 3,000 tonnes from Canada. Two other representatives of the Old World – Turkey (2,800 tonnes) and Morocco (2,700 tonnes) – followed them.
