AUC receives US$85 mln grant to develop higher education
The American University in Cairo (AUC) has received a grant of US$85 million from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in Egypt, marking the second largest grant in its history. The grant is in support of the 'USAID Partnerships for Educational Progress' development program. This new program, under the leadership of AUC, plans to fortify and expand higher education in Egypt through knowledge and capacity building. These efforts aim to better align with the country’s development priorities. The grant comes after the recent announcement of the largest grant in AUC history from USAID, amounting to $86 million, to support the USAID Egyptian Pioneers program, making AUC the largest body executing the agency’s higher educational projects in Egypt. Professor Ehab Abdel-Rahman, the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs at AUC, shares that the program is implemented in alliance with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Egyptian higher education institutions, and private sector. The program aims to transform public universities in Egypt into state-of-the-art educational institutions that cater to market needs, armed with advanced technological and scientific resources, while also linking students with the workforce. The program has 12 higher education institutions from both governmental and private sectors as participants.
