KOICA, Egypt sign $8M agreement to enhance educational capacity of Beni-Suef Technological University
The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and the Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education and International Cooperation have signed an agreement on a project termed 'Enhancing the Educational Capacity and University-Industry Cooperation of Beni-Suef Technological University'. The development program, worth $8 million, seeks to develop a skilled and capable workforce ready for deployment in the labor market. The project includes the development of an innovative industry-specific curriculum for ICT, Mechatronics, Autotronics, and newly established Railway Technologies departments. It also includes the establishment of a long-term strategic plan to sustain the operation of the university. The project is set to commence this year (2023) and end in 2028. The agreement highlights KOICA's commitment to fostering inclusive employment skills and youth involvement in social and economic progress. Furthermore, KOICA has a longstanding presence in Egypt, having been established in 1998, and has spearheaded programs to empower youth technical education, bolster the digitalization of government services, and tackle issues related to gender-based violence, women's empowerment, and the support of vulnerable groups. The project agreement comes as a logical continuation of KOICA's earlier project of 'Establishment of Egyptian-Korean Technological College in Beni Seuf' that was completed in 2022.
