Telecom Egypt to connect the Red Sea with Medusa system
The agreement was signed last week during the Submarine Networks World event in Singapore.
The new connection will start from Port Said and tap into stations in Suez, Zafarana, and Ras Ghareb through Telecom Egypt’s extensive crossing network.
Mohamed Nasr, the CEO of Telecom Egypt, said that the extension will enhance the country's connection with others in Europe and Africa.
"The agreement provides additional connectivity solutions and increases diversity in the submarine cable infrastructure reaching the Red Sea," he added.
Egypt's hosting of the Medusa Submarine Cable System will accelerate telecommunication signals across oceans, facilitate global communications, and provide high-quality internet connectivity, the statement explained.
In March 2022, Telecom Egypt signed an agreement with Medusa-owner AFR-IX Telecom to land Egypt's cable network.
The project will connect Egypt with other Mediterranean countries, including Portugal, Morocco, Spain, France, Algeria, Tunisia, Italy, Greece, Cyprus, and Egypt.
