East Nile Monorail to undergo trial operation on November 5
Egypt's Minister of Transport Kamel al-Wazir has announced that the East Nile Monorail will undergo a trial operation on November 5, with no passengers, in Arad al-Maared and al-Manara areas. This announcement came during the “Story of a Homeland” conference. Furthermore, the final stage of the third metro line is awaiting presidential approval to be inaugurated in October. Until 2014, Egypt had only two metro lines and one stage of the third line extending from Abbasiya to the Cairo Stadium, Wazir said. There are now 220 kilometers of metro lines, transporting five million passengers daily. The country is currently developing a third metro line, an LRT, and a monorail east of the Nile, with a total length of 220 kilometers and includes 123 stations. The plan for 2030 includes spending LE400 billion to complete these started projects along with the introduction of five metro lines. The metro service is expected to transport 13.5 million passengers per day and 12 million tons of goods annually. The first and second lines of the metro will also be renovated.
