Egypt eyes cooperation with Belarus on electric bus production
Egypt's Minister of Transport met with the Belarusian ambassador to Cairo to discuss the potential for establishing an electric bus factory in Alexandria's Borg Al Arab region, as well as upgrading state-owned workshops that service trucks. The Belarusian companies also expressed interest in setting up grain silos in one of Egyptian seaports like East Port Said, Dekheila, or Gargoub. These silos would cater to local needs and could also possibly be used for exports to Africa. The factory by Alarabia for Trading, Manufacturing, and Transportation Services (ATM Misr) and China's King Long in February for bus and vehicle production with an investment of LE1 billion serves as a precedent in the field. Furthermore, the Ministry of State for Military Production had announced the completion of the first locally made electric bus in June 2021, in collaboration with Manufacturing Commercial Vehicles Co. (MCV). The aspiration of bridging up with Belarus in this field is seen as another step towards enhancing the country's transportation sector.
