Egypt, France Sign MoU Regarding Cairo Metro Line 6

Minister of Transport Kamel El-Wazir witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) regarding the second phase of studies for the line 6 of the metro between the National Authority for Tunnels and the Federation of French Consulting Companies (Aegis Rail - CITC), led by the French company Aegis Rail, in the presence of the French Ambassador to Cairo Marc Baretti.

At the beginning of the meeting, the Minister praised the positive cooperation between the two sides in implementing a number of projects in the fields of railways and subways, such as the existing cooperation with the French company Vinci in establishing the third metro line, as well as the planned cooperation with the French Alstom to establish an industrial complex in the city of Borg El Arab in Alexandria to localize all railway industries. The Minister of Transport indicated that this contract is considered a giant step in the field of joint cooperation in the transport sector, praising the existing cooperation between the Ministry of Transport in the field of managing and operating a number of transport projects such as managing and operating the third line of the metro and the light electric train, and managing and operating the Tahya Misr multi-purpose station in the Alexandria port.

On his part, the French ambassador in Cairo confirmed that there is a strong strategic partnership between Egypt and France in the field of transportation, which is considered a major and important element in this partnership.

"The French side is proud of this cooperation with the Egyptian side and of France’s participation in the development of infrastructure and transportation in Egypt," he added.

Moreover, the two sides reviewed the progress of work in a number of joint projects being implemented, such as the project to supply 55 new air-conditioned trains for the first line of the metro, where the internal and external appearance of the trains were approved , and the initial designs for the systems and train equipment were reviewed, in preparation for the start of preliminary testing work for the train in the factory.
