Egypt's Decline in Fruit and Vegetable Exports in Early October 2023

Egypt sees a decline in fruit and vegetable exports to Saudi Arabia, Morocco, and Italy in early October 2023, with exports dipping 5 percent and 18.1 percent respectively.

The international analytical platform EastFruit reported a drop in Egypt's exports of vegetables and fruits in the first week of October 2023, a downward trend compared to the last week of September. Specifically vegetable exports faced a 5 percent decrease, translating to an export figure of 20,000 tons from 21,000 tons previously. Notably, potato exports showed an upward trend, increasing to 8,000 tons from 7,000 tons. However, onion and green beans exports both revealed a decrease. Fruit exports also took a hit, showing an 18.1 percent decrease to 22,000 tons from the 26,000 tons reported at the end of September. Pomegranate exports stood at 10,000 tons, experiencing a decrease of 1,000 tons. Mango and strawberry exports decreased to 7,000 and 5,000 tons respectively, showing a collective decline of 3,000 tons. The General Administration of Food Safety's report indicated the issuance of 3,310 food export certificates, pertaining to 160,000 tons of goods. These comprised 560 varieties of fresh fruits, vegetables, flour, and various food products. The report also revealed that Saudi Arabia topped the list of the largest importers of Egyptian exports, followed by Morocco and Italy.
