The Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation in Egypt held a meeting to review ongoing projects focused on providing irrigation water for agricultural reclamation and ensuring flood protection. These initiatives play a crucial role in enhancing agricultural productivity, supporting farmers' livelihoods and contributing to the country's food security.

During the meeting, it was announced that over 1,600 flood protection facilities have been established across various governorates in Egypt in order to safeguard communities and infrastructure from flash floods that can arise from heavy rainfall.

A major focus of the meeting was the South Valley Development Project, designed to boost agricultural activities in southern regions that often struggle with water scarcity along with flood protection efforts, particularly in areas like South Sinai that are vulnerable to extreme weather events. Nuweiba City, in particular, has faced growing concerns related to flooding due to climate variability, underscoring the urgent need for effective measures.

The discussion concluded with the promotion of rainwater harvesting techniques to maximize all available water resources. By capturing and storing rainwater, authorities aim to alleviate water scarcity issues and provide additional support to both agricultural and urban areas facing water supply challenges.
