Siwa ranks among 15 best resorts to visit in 2024: UNWTO
The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) revealed its list of the best tourist villages in 2023, with Egypt’s Siwa Oasis listed among the best tourist villages to visit during the New Year.
The organization said that the Siwa Oasis is an increasingly popular destination in Egypt, a favored location for the world’s elite throughout history.
It features therapeutic salt lakes, historical monuments such as Shali Castle, and a host of mummies in the Mountain of the Dead.
The UNWTO shared its classification of the best tourist cities for the year 2023, based on several criteria: preserving rural areas, preserving natural landscapes, cultural diversity, local values and culinary traditions.
The Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organization Zurab Pololikashvili, explained that this initiative recognizes villages that have used tourism as an incentive for their development and well-being.
The list of tourist villages that it chose included:
Pengliburan Village, Bali Island in Indonesia, Al-Sila Village, in Jordan, Biei, in Japan, Caleta Tortil, Chile, Chacas, Peru, Kendovan, Iran, Lerici, Italy, and Mantegas, Portugal. Murkut, Switzerland, Saty, Kazakhstan, Slunj, Croatia, St. Anton am Arlberg, Austria, Tokaj, Hungary, and Zagana, China.
