Egypt's PM Discusses with Maersk Officials Latest Developments in Red Sea
Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly stressed the centrality of the security and safety of maritime navigation in the Red Sea to Egyptian national security, in light of its close connection to the Suez Canal, and that Egypt is closely following developments in the situation in the Red Sea.
He pointed out that, despite the direct impact of the Red Sea events on Egypt’s interests, they are directly related to the war in the Gaza Strip.
This came during a discussion between the prime minister Wednesday, via video conference, with officials of shipping Giant “Maersk" group, in the presence of Osama Rabie, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority, and Vincent Clerc, Executive Director of the Maersk group.
The Prime Minister stressed that Egypt is wary of efforts to turn the Red Sea region into a hotbed of a new regional conflict, and is concerned that the war in Gaza will expand throughout the region, in light of the ongoing escalation it is witnessing, which was expressed by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, during his meetings with many International officials.
