The Egyptian Petrochemical Holding Company Alexandria National Refining and Petrochemical Company (ANRPC) and a private firm are planning to invest $380 million (€351 million) to build a sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) plant.

Once completed it will have a capacity to produce 120,000 tonnes of SAF per annum in Egypt from used cooking oil using the HEFA pathway.
The project is expected to be established besides ANRPC in Alexandria and will be integrated with the sector’s companies.

The news was published by Egyptian news outlet Asharq Business.
The Egyptian Petrochemical Holding Company is set to acquire 70% of the project’s capital, while ANRPC will receive 15% and the private company 15%.
Earlier in October 2023, Egypt’s Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Tarek El Molla met with Mohammed Mohaisen, Middle East, North Africa, Middle Asia and Turkey CEO, Honeywell, as well as Khaled Hashem, President, Honeywell Egypt, to discuss the potential for SAF projects in UAE.

In addition, the proposed SAF plant’s feasibility study was presented at the meeting, highlighting the potential for establishing a new company in partnership with the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, represented by the Egyptian Petrochemical Holding Company, and private sector companies.
