AMEA Power installs first turbine at 500-MW wind park in Egypt
Dubai-based renewables developer AMEA Power has installed the first turbine at its 500-MW Amunet wind project in Egypt.
Located in Ras Ghareb, within Egypt's Red Sea Governorate, the wind farm will feature a total of 77 turbines of 6.5 MW each that are being supplied by Shanghai-based green technology company Envision Energy. The Chinese manufacturer’s EN-171 machines will have a rotor diameter of 171 metres (561 ft) and a hub height of 94.5 m.
When completed, the wind farm will be one of the largest in Africa, the company highlighted in a Linkedin post on Thursday, announcing the milestone of the first turbine installation.
The Amunet wind power plant is expected to produce 2,300,000 MWh of electricity a year, sufficient to power 800,000 households, the developer estimates. AMEA Power has a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) for the project.
