Egypt consults with the EU to finance the electricity connection with Greece and Italy
Egypt is conducting consultations with the European Union to obtain a grant worth two billion euros to implement electricity interconnection projects with Italy and Greece. This was reported by the Saudi-owned television station "Al Arabiya", citing Egyptian government officials. The two projects, for which feasibility studies are still ongoing, now represent the top priority for the Cairo projects. The goal is to connect the Egyptian electricity grid to the European one and provide clean energy to Europe. “A project that requires large sums of money to implement and which will benefit all parties,” officials said.
Discussions to include electricity interconnections among projects of European Union interest started a long time ago and concluded last December, while other consultations took place last January and February. An official of the Egyptian Company electricity transmission network (EECT) confirmed that some private companies have shown flexibility in submitting feasibility studies for the electricity interconnection project with the Greece and the same goes for the electrical interconnection project with theItaly, where a private company is conducting feasibility studies for the project.
