Egyptian potatoes gain access to the Moroccan market

In a notable development, Egypt's Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, Elsayed Al-Qasir, disclosed the opening of the Moroccan market to Egyptian potatoes. This achievement is part of the Ministry's strategy to widen the reach of Egyptian agricultural exports, aiming to fortify the economy through enhanced cash reserves. An official statement from the Egyptian ministry highlighted the approval from Moroccan agricultural authorities (ONSSA) for the importation of Egyptian potatoes, enabling immediate export activities to Morocco. This move is expected to augment Egypt's agricultural export diversity.

The agricultural sector in Egypt has shown significant growth, with exports in the first quarter reaching over 2.2 million tons, valued at around $1.5 billion. This marks a $300 million increase from the previous year, amidst global supply chain challenges and selective export restrictions. Agriculture, being Egypt's second-largest export sector, generated $9 billion last year from fresh and processed products, contributing substantially to the nation's foreign currency reserves and economic stability.
