Supply Minister Issues Decision Regulating Bread Prices
The Minister of Supply Ali Al-Moselhi issued a ministerial resolution regulating the prices of free-range bread and baguette bread "fino".
The Ministry of Supply said - in a statement Sunday - that the decision stipulated that the prices of free-range bread weighing 80 grams would be 150 piasters, 75 piasters for 40 grams, and 50 piasters for 25 grams. It also set the prices of fino at 150 piasters for 50 grams and 100 piasters weighing 35 grams.
On his part, the official spokesman for the Ministry Ahmed Kamal said that the decision stressed the necessity of announcing the weights and prices in a clear place on the front of the bakery, in a clear and visible handwriting that does not admit of doubt.
He added that the decision comes to make it easier for citizens to obtain free-range bread and fino bread, at reasonable and fair prices, with these bakeries providing free-range flour, extracting 72% from free private sector mills that produce flour with their knowledge.
Kamal noted that the decision obligated free tourist bakeries working in the production and sale of free tourist bread and fino bread to citizens with specifications and weights, and the maximum price set for each weight.
Every violation of the price, weights, and circulation of bread is punishable by law, he concluded.
