During a phone-in with TeN channel, on Monday, Qasim said that the governorates will begin implementing the summer dates for opening and closing stores throughout Egypt, starting on Friday.
Summer hours
Qasim explained that Article Six of the ministerial decree issued in 2020 specified that summer months would start from the last Friday of April until the last Thursday of September.
He added that the Ministry of Local Development has set the working hours for restaurants, cafes and bazaars to operate daily from seven in the morning until 11 in the evening.
Qasim pointed out that restaurants and cafes, including those in commercial malls, will open daily from five am and close at one am.
Opening hours will increase on Thursdays, Fridays and official holidays to midnight, he said, while takeaway and home delivery services for cafes and restaurants will continue 24 hours a day.
All workshops and craft shops within residential blocks will be open from eight am and close at seven pm, he said, adding that grocery stores, supermarkets, bakeries, and ovens are excluded from the decision.
Opening hours for stores and malls:
- Shops and malls open daily from seven am and close at 11 pm.
- Opening hours on Thursdays, Fridays and official state holidays will be extended to midnight.
- Restaurants, cafes, and bazaars, including those in commercial malls, open daily from five am and close at one am.
- Takeaway service and home delivery service for restaurants and cafes will continue 24 hours a day.
- All workshops and craft shops within the residential blocks are open daily from eight am, and close at seven pm.
- Grocery stores, supermarkets, bakeries, ovens, fruit and vegetable stores, poultry stores, wholesale markets, pharmacies, shops located on roads, gas stations, and shops related to urgent services to citizens are excluded from these appointments.
- The opening and closing times for stores located in coastal governorates may be modified by decision of the Minister of Local Development based on the governor’s proposal.
