Egypt to launch invitation to tender for development of desalination plants
Chairperson of The Sovereign Fund of Egypt (TSFE) Ayman Soliman stated Sunday that desalination plants would be offered for development in the BOT system by the private sector in a few weeks, as reported by Al Shorouk newspaper.
Soliman added that the priority in terms of location goes to the Mediterranean coasts, followed by those lying on the Red Sea, then the Suez Canal, pointing out that the plants would be transferred to the government after 25 years after the beginning of operation.
Egypt’s water desalination program entails the launch of several plants possessing a total capacity of 8.85 million m3/day by 2050. The first phase of which is planned to generate 3.35 million m3/day by 2025. Hence, TSFE prequalified last year 17 consortia that would be invited to the tendering process to carry out the mission of desalination plants development.
