In an effort to lure more international tourists, Egypt is planning to build a number of world-class hotels in the area surrounding the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM).

Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly held a meeting on Tuesday to follow up on the readiness of the GEM for its grand opening.

The world is eagerly awaiting the official opening of the grand museum, he said, which is the largest museum in the world dedicated to one civilization thanks to the large number of distinctive artifacts it houses alongside exhibition halls that use the latest museum display techniques to showcase ancient Egyptian civilization.

He added that therefore complimentary aesthetic touches are needed in the area surrounding the museum and all roads leading to it.

The prime minister emphasized the importance of establishing a number of world-class hotels in the area, as well as taking advantage of the presence of Sphinx Airport to attract more tourists from all over the world.

GEM developments

The official spokesperson for the Cabinet, Mohamed Mohamed al-Homosany, stated that the meeting reviewed the latest developments in the current status of the GEM project, especially regarding the work being prepared inside the main exhibition halls.

It also reviewed the readiness of each of the museum exhibition halls, the Museum of Khufu’s Boats for operation, as well as the Tutankhamun exhibition hall, and museum display arrangements – display cases, artifact bases,  mounting units and multimedia.

The spokesperson added that the meeting also addressed the status of the implementation of beautification and development work in the areas surrounding the museum, under the tourist walkway, in the shooting range, under the Ring Road, and on the Cairo-Alexandria desert road in addition to the various roads leading to the museum.

These include the implementation of landscaping and green spaces, developing the shooting range, the installation of lighting, advertising and decoration systems, raising the efficiency of the walls and residential buildings adjacent to the museum, and implementing the visual identity of the Ring Road, in addition to landscaping and landscaping the general site with the paths that lead to the museum.

He added that the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the DAW Tourism Development Company Bassel Sami affirmed during the meeting that the development taking place in the museum area encouraged them to open new hotel rooms in their affiliated hotels, bringing the number to more than 250 rooms.

New hotels are also being prepared to open in the area, he said, as the GEM and the surrounding area deserve to have the finest international hotels in order to provide exceptional service to visitors to the largest and greatest museum in the world.

The meeting also reviewed the status of the hotels affiliated with the DAW Tourism Development Company, especially those close to the Grand Egyptian Museum.
