Shanghai Museum in China hosts exhibition of Egyptian antiquities

It includes a huge statue of Akhenaten and a coffin from the archaeological site of Saqqara, which is the first to be unveiled at Shanghai Museum.

A collection of 788 artifacts from seven major Egyptian museums arrived in Shanghai, China, on Saturday, accompanying the latest archaeological discoveries from the Saqqara region.


These artifacts are scheduled to be displayed in the upcoming exhibition “On Top of the Pyramid: The Civilization of Ancient Egypt” at the Shanghai Museum in July.


It includes a huge statue of Akhenaten and a coffin from the archaeological site of Saqqara, which is the first to be unveiled at Shanghai Museum.


Among the highlights of the exhibition are statues of pharaohs such as Tutankhamun, Amenemhat III, and Ramses II, a complete collection of mummy coffins, royal exquisite jewelry, newly discovered painted coffins, animal mummies, and statues from the Saqqara region of Egypt.


The exhibition will be opened with a large ceremony on July 18, and will be open to the public starting July 19.


It is set to be the largest and most prestigious display of ancient Egyptian artifacts, and will continue for approximately 13 months, ending on August 17, 2025.
