Egyptian exports of fresh fruit surge to $1.268B in initial 5 months of 2024

May of 2023 witnessed an upsurge in Egyptian exports compared to the preceding year, driven by the escalation in exports of key commodities.

During the initial five months of 2024, Egypt's fresh fruit exports surged to $1.268 billion, marking a significant rise from the $1.106 billion recorded in the same period of 2023, reflecting a $161.3 million increase as per data unveiled by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).

 

In May, the export of fresh fruits amounted to $312.7 million, showcasing growth from $266.4 million in May 2023, indicating an increase of approximately $46.2 million. 

 

May of 2023 witnessed an upsurge in Egyptian exports compared to the preceding year, driven by the escalation in exports of key commodities.

 

 This included a 17.4 percent boost in fresh fruit exports, a 5.5 percent rise in ready-made clothing exports, a substantial 32.2 percent increase in pastries and food preparations exports, and a modest 1.3 percent uptick in carpet exports.

 

Conversely, Egyptian imports saw a decline in May, dropping to $7.38 billion compared to $7.77 billion in May 2023, a decrease of 5.1 percent. 

 

Notably, imports of iron or steel raw materials fell to about $405 million in May, down from $407 million in May 2023, marking a 0.3 percent decrease. 

 

Following this were Egypt's imports of primary-form plastics, which amounted to $304 million in May, down from $313 million in May 2023, representing a 2.9 percent decrease.
