The coalition comprising Engie, Toyota, and Orascom has received approval from the Egyptian Cabinet to enhance wind energy capabilities by up to 150 megawatts, according to a statement released by the cabinet.

This decision, announced in a statement by the Cabinet, will complement the ongoing main alliance project set to deliver 500 megawatts in the Gulf of Suez region by 2025.

The approval was granted during a Cabinet meeting presided over by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly.

The new wind energy initiative will adhere to the terms and pricing of the original project agreements.

It will utilize an adjacent piece of land through usufruct to accommodate the additional capacity, a location where the alliance has previously conducted wind studies and environmental assessments.

These endeavors are part of a broader strategy to swiftly introduce more renewable energy capacities before the summer of 2025, addressing the rising electricity demand and reducing reliance on fossil fuels.

During a recent press conference, Madbouly announced the Egyptian government’s plan to introduce 4.5 gigawatts of new renewable energy by the upcoming summer.
